Beryllium

Beryllium is a rare, lightweight, silver-gray metal with atomic number 4. Naturally, beryllium occurs in minerals like beryl and chrysoberyl, but is extracted with difficulty.

It is remarkably strong—stronger than steel yet lighter than aluminum—making it highly valuable in aerospace and defense industries. However, beryllium is toxic if inhaled and can cause a serious lung disease known as berylliosis. The metal finds applications in X-ray windows, satellites, nuclear reactors, and advanced electronics. Naturally, it occurs in minerals such as beryl and chrysoberyl, though extraction is difficult.
